Richard Freeman owns and operates Elite Motorsports. Since founding the company in 2005, Richard has created a Pro Stock dynasty that is now the largest team in the National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) professional ranks.

Richard’s passion for drag racing started in his junior year of high school when he decided to enter a NHRA Division 4 bracket race in Ardmore, Oklahoma, a race that no one else entered and ended up also being his first win.

Drag Racing is a family affair in the Freeman household with Richard’s father and two older brothers also competing. His father, Royce Freeman, competed in the Pro Stock class back in the 70’s, before Richard could really remember but he and his brothers spent their high school years racing while their parents focused on running the family car dealerships.

Brother Robert Freeman won the JEGS All Stars in 2003 and a Division 4 Championship in Competition Eliminator in 2002 and Royce Lee Freeman still currently competes in the NHRA Top Sportsman class and won his first national event in Norwalk, Ohio in 2024.

After competing in the IHRA Mountain Motor Pro Stock ranks for several years, Richard switched gears from driving to focusing on the business side of the sport.

In 2013, he teamed up with Johnny Gray to field his son Shane Gray while Rickie Jones jumped in Richard’s old seat. The two drivers had a fair showing with Shane finishing fifth in points with five final round appearances and Jones finishing 11th with a national event win.

In 2014, Richard moved Rickie out of the seat and into fulltime crew chief duties to bring in Erica Enders, the rest, you could say, was history.

Erica and Richard won their first championship together in 2014. They’ve gone on to win five more, most recently in 2023 with 49 Pro Stock national event wins.

The Elite Motorsports racing program has grown to include multiple Pro Stock entries, a Pro Mod program and a multicar Mountain Motor Pro Stock team.

Richard’s dedication to motorsports and his family’s history of owning several car dealerships has grown Elite Motorsports into a business centered around providing race teams and team owners with the best motor coaches, trailers, truck & trailer combinations, race cars and equipment in the industry.
