NHRA NATIONALS AT THE ROCK: GREG STANFIELD TAKES POINTS LEAD WITH DOMINANT WIN

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (Sept. 27, 2026) – Veteran drag racer Greg Stanfield and his Janac Brothers Racing team took over the Pro Stock points lead en route to their second victory of the season Sunday at the NHRA Nationals at The Rock at Rockingham Dragway.

Behind the wheel of his Janac Brothers Pro Stock machine, Stanfield had a holeshot victory with a .019-second reaction time and 6.537-second pass at 210.48 mph to hold off runner-up Cody Anderson by just .011 seconds with his .042 reaction time and 6.525 pass at 209.99.

The victory was Stanfield’s second national event win of the season and the eighth Pro Stock Wally of his career.

“To be able to do this today, it definitely feels good,” Stanfield said. “Any time you can hold a Wally, it’s a great day. I’m just trying to do the best I can and not let everybody down in the Elite Motorsports camp who works their butt off for me to be able to drive. I think I’ve let our team down through the year, getting to the semis, then not closing it. For me to be able to close it out today, it means a lot to me.”

Along with his two wins and a runner-up finish, Stanfield has had eight semi-final exits this season. On his way to the win, Stanfield had to battle through a stacked bracket of young, aggressive talent. In the first round he defeated his son, Aaron Stanfield (6.511 at 211.67 def. -.299 red), then took down second generation racer Matt Latino (6.531 at 210.28 def. 16.144 at 51.89) before battling reigning world champion Dallas Glenn in the semifinals (6.532 at 210.77 def. 6.554 at 209.69).

“There’s a lot of young drivers that are really talented right now, and for me to try to rise up to their level and race with them is tough. I don’t take this for granted,” he added. “I think my success is a testament to the hard work of Elite Motorsports, our crew chiefs, the braintrust, our other drivers and every single crew person. They put their heart and soul into this team and I’m just the guy that happens to be enjoying the benefit.”

By taking the victory at Rockingham, Stanfield jumped into the lead of the Pro Stock Countdown to the Championship, becoming only the 37th driver in NHRA history to hold the top spot in the division, it is also the first time since the second Las Vegas in the fall of 2024 that Elite Motorsports has left a race leading the Pro Stock points, his son, Aaron, was the last to hold the top spot for Elite.

“Anybody can win in this class right now. I mean, it’s incredible how tight it is,” Stanfield noted. “So, the points battle is going to go all the way to the end. I feel like it’s going to be that way. So what’s going to happen next week? I can’t predict it. We’re just going to try to work hard, work smart, and if it’s meant to be, it’ll be.”

The Countdown to the Championship continues next weekend, October 2-4, with the NAPA Auto Parts NHRA Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway, the third of six events in the championship hunt.
