“It was a very solid weekend and not just because we got to the finals. We tested Monday after Brainerd, and I know we learned some things there that we were able to use this weekend. I feel like this car is a much happier race car than what it’s been for the last two or three months. It was very consistent this week. We had really challenging conditions this weekend with the change in weather. Today, the semis, we really needed that lane choice, I feel like the outcome would be the polar opposite of where we are right now.
“The thing that’s encouraging about it is, there’s way more positives coming out of today than there are negatives to it. It’s the way this car has responded all weekend. The way it feels. I haven’t been drag racing that long, but I’ve made enough runs now to where I feel like I’m getting a better feel for when this car is happy and when it’s not. There were a couple times this weekend where it was on the verge of not being happy, but Mike Green and Joe Barlam made adjustments and today this thing was in such a good spot.
“I’m so excited that in a scenario like that, where you’ve got to really pull this thing back to get it to go down the racetrack, this R+L Carriers machine responded and did what it was asked to do. We gave ourselves a shot in that final. If you spin the tires on the starting line, you can’t win it anyway. I feel like we have a really good car to start the Countdown. I’m really proud of Mike and Joe, and really proud of these guys, this R+L crew. A couple new guys helped this week, they did a phenomenal job working on this car, and our guys that work on it every week, did what they always do: a spectacular job.
“I think R+L is really happy with what we’re doing right now, and I’d love to have gotten them a win today, but, all the variables in this program are in a great spot and we have great people. We have a great partner to support us, great teammates with the Elite Pro Stock team and TSR teammates. I feel like it’s really the best spot we’ve been in all year with this program.”

“Here we are at Indy on Monday afternoon. I think you could sum up the weekend like this: there’s just one team leaving here happier. Finishing second, being runner-up in this JEGS hot rod, we can’t say we’re unhappy. Qualified 13th and just never surrendered. We’ve thrown a lot of parts at this car. We’ve fixed some things on it this week, and we’ve made some progress with it. So that’s the good part. The only cloud over the weekend was, we just needed a little bit more in the final round there. The car was so close. When the car launched, it started to really accelerate nicely, then it, got just about 3 or 4 tenths into the run, it threw the front end up. It was a little bit over-hooked, and then it hit the wheelie bars hard and started to spin the back tires a little bit. When the front end dropped, it lifted the back end up some more, and then drove through the rest of the run. With a drag race, if you mess anything up, you want to miss the last foot of the run, not the first couple feet. In this case, we gave it all we had and just came up a little bit short.”
